Phalereus, a native or inhabitant of ancient Greek city of Phalerum. Phalerum was a very important place in antiquity as the first port of Ancient Athens, before the 5th century B.C. when city’s naval and shipping center was moved to Piraeus. It is located 5km southwest of the Acropolis of Athens, on a bay of Saronic Gulf also referred as Phalerum Bay. It is said that Athenians sailing to Troy departed from Phaleron, as so did Theseus when he sailed to Crete after the death of Androgeus. The area of Phalerum is now occupied by the towns of Palaio Faliro and Kallithea.
